Both therapeutic approaches and medications are used in the treatment and management of ADHD. One main method is behaviour therapy. It helps to eliminate unwanted behaviour and helps to acquire essential skills. Counselling is provided to both the children as well as their parents to ensure good mental health. Other issues like relationship building, self esteem development are also addresed by counselling. Parents must be propery trained and they must have a clear picture regarding the condition of their child.

Other form is treatment is giving medication. Stimulant medications are often administered to the child. It helps to reduce the problem into fewer symptoms. But a controversy now exist in this kind of trratment. Overdiagnosis and overprescription of stimulant medications are increasing now a days and that has to be addressed.

Children with ADHD should not be given overdose medications. Doctors must be careful in prescribing. They have to find out which medicine is appropriate and works best for the childs condition. Along with appropriate medications, psychotherapy and support from family and support from the special education system can make a great positive impact in their lives.
