Expert Solution

Answer: Interactive reporting is the most common feature of enterprise-level reporting and BI tools that provides end-users with the capability to do various manipulations to a report such as, drilling through various levels of data, filtering, highlighting and sorting. Users can define charts, group data, etc.

Information is crucial to the success of any business, and choosing the right enterprise solution can be challenging. Interactive reporting, allowing users to dynamically work with report views is an essential component of an information delivery system. Interactive reports are reports which are built to allow end-users to do various types of data discovery and analysis easily.

When a system includes interactive drill-down capabilities, users can select the data they need for processing a specific kind of performance and making decisions in a particular situation. For example, the airlines using the Sabre system can on data about sales performance (seat sold, ticketing, etc.) operational activities (flight movement, inventory, etc.) This flexibility of interactive report stimulates decision-makers to use data in support of their decisions.

There are many examples of interactive reports. Example: Interactive reports for Couriers Company. Suppose there is a logistics manager and he has a shipping report which shows the status of every non-delivered courier. He wants to better understand the current status of couriers for the region that he is in charge of. Here he needs an interactive report that allows him to filter data on the report to show only the regional data that he needs. With sorting action, he can sort a field like, “created date” or, “of days in transit”. When he finds the specific orders he is interested in, with an interactive report, he can also drill down into each specific order to see more detailed data such as order status, the location of a courier, etc. All of these allow him to better understand the current status of the company business and allows him to take action which needs it. This type of functionality, therefore, allows us to make more efficient decisions.
