Explain what Secularization is in your own words. Could you please give your opinion on whether or not you think it is a good thing and use examples. I would love to understand this topic in a more extensive way as a way of reviewing for my exam.
THANK YOU! :)
Explain what Secularization is
Secularisation means where the society is transformed in becoming more secular. To be secular, ,wants to not be affected by religion. People who are not influenced by religion in carrying out their activities are referred to as being secular.
Secularism is the belief that a person has that when the idea of religion is imposed on other people, it is wrong. The practice of religion has to be personal to a person, such that whatever practices they have should be only practiced by them, and they should not be imposing their practices on another person. This means, that every religion has to be treated on a fair basis, without one being imposed on the other, and there should be equal respect for every religion.
When the condition of the society becomes secular, such that there would be freedom to practice their own religion, without any interference or imposition from another religion, it would be referred to as the secularisation of the society.
In order to define a secular state, we could take the example of India, where, all the religions are given equal weightage. There is no distinction in laws on the basis of religion. The religions existing are : Hindu, Muslims, Sikh, Christians, which give equal laws to every religion.
