Please provide an example on why you would create a subdomain, also known as a child domain. Also, how does it differ in procedure using the promotion wizard creation from creating a separate domain ???
A subdomain is, as the name would suggest, an additional section of your main domain name. You create subdomains to help organize and navigate to different sections of your main website. Within your main domain, you can have as many subdomains as necessary to get to all of the different pages of your website. Although no of sub-domains may also depend on the host from which you bought the domain. Registering different domains for each specific pages for a website is a blunder and very expensive.
Now the best example for creating a sub-domain would be in case of a website of a reputed company. A company might have a blog on which they provide updates about themselves. Normally they want visitors to this particular page they want it to stand out as a blog rather than a page from one of their websites. So they register a blog.companyname.com subdomain to their main website. Now the career section is another such stand out the page they need. They register a careers.companyname.com sub-domain (this is very common nowadays). Now if the company has its own store then rather a creating a separate page for selling products it can create a store.companyname.com subdomain. This will help manage everything in one place and keep the integrity of the brand.
The procedure for registering a sub-domain and a normal domain is completely different. A normal domain would want you to go to a domain seller. Buy one which might be costly and the website might not be available. After that redirect the domain to the place where you hosted your website and many more. But registering a sub-domain is simple. No purchase is necessary, whatever name you want for the sub-domain it is available. The domain seller will have simple inbuilt option to create your desired sub-domain in minutes and redirect it to the page you desire.
