The Systems understanding aid is a project and a required text for this course. In short, the systems understanding aid (SUA) is an accounting practice set. Through completion of the SUA, you will learn the classic manual accounting information system. Current accounting information systems are based on this classic system, and completing the manual process advances an understanding of both types of systems. The SUA shows the entire accounting system from transactions to financial statement preparation. The instructions in the SUA will be sufficient for completing the project; however, there are a few things that you will need to know. ? I encourage you to use the cycle-based approach. In the end, the cycle-based and chronological approach will get to the same answers; however, I believe that the cycle-based approach is more realistic and better maps to current automated systems. ? We will be using the BLUE transaction list. ? You are allowed to work either in pairs or alone to complete the SUA. ? Use a pencil, and have a good eraser. ? Start early Give your completed SUA to the instructor prior to the due date. Make sure that you are submitting the following: ? Journals ? Instructions, Flowcharts, and Ledgers ? All documents listed on the Documents Folder ? Comparative Balance Sheet ? Income Statement ? 3 Supplementary Trial Balances.
