In tropical regions less energy is emitted by the earth as infrared radiation than is absorbed as solar radiation averaged over the year. Explain briefly why tropical regions do not continually get warmer year after year after year.
Ans.
It is true that since skies are clouded near equator and sun is direct on the equator twice a year, but still it does not get heated much more than the other regions though terrestrial radiation is comparatively more due to clear nights. It is especially because, heat is being transported from equator to the poles through hadley, ferrel and polar cells. Thus earth has a balancing phenomenon. The equator has very low pressure because air rises from here which is very hot and in the upper atmosphere, it starts moving towards poles while the other cool layer takes its place on the surface maintaining the temperature in equatorial region.
But in case of tropical regions, it get intense heat due to solar insolation due to heat reflected by the clouds near equator while at night, terrestrial radiation is also not adequate. It is because surface heating in tropical region is uneven and secondly, the balancing nature of earth transports heat from surplus areas to the deficit regions.
