Indicate whether energy is emitted or absorbed when the following electronic transitions occur in hydrogen:
(a) from n = 2 to n = 6,
(b) From an orbit of radius 4.76 Å to one of radius 0.529 Å,
(c) From the n = 6 to the n = 9 state.
(a)
From n = 2 to n = 6
Here, electron is jumping to a high orbital, so it has to gain/absorb energy.
So, Energy absorbed.
(b) From an orbit of radius A = 4.76 to radius = 0.529 A to the radius because smaller, means it jumps from higher energy level to lower energy level, hence,
Energy emitted.
(c)
From n = 6 to n = 9 that to electron is jumping to higher state,
Energy absorbed.
(a)
From n = 2 to n = 6
Here, electron is jumping to a high orbital, so it has to gain/absorb energy.
So, Energy absorbed.
