“I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know” (Hippocratic Oath).
(a) Explain this statement?
(b) Reflect on your understanding of this statement?
a) The sentence meant that the problems faced by the patient must be properly disclosed to the doctors, although they have got a problem in delivering those problems to the world or those around them. This is a norm that has to be followed by all those in the medical field. irrespective of any caste, sex, or any other reasons like creed, the doctors must respect the privacy of patients.
b) It is said as a saying that we should not say any fake stories to doctors or advocates. that is because they can extend the full support only if they know the full problems we are suffering.
one doctor should not disclose their patients' privacy to the world, it is because their patients are sharing all of their private problems with trust that they are safe in doctor's hands and they can be safely saved. by the statement, Hippocrates also tried to say that all physicians must use their best work to mentally and physically support their patients' problems. that would be the greatest quality of a doctor. they must be felt that to the patients, that they are trustable and approachable. and thus they can say everything irrespective of fear of losing their privacy.
