Share your thoughts and ideas regarding how factors such race, gender, and class are elements that may help people move up the social ladder. Explain how meritocracy is a myth and that people are not chosen merely based on ability.
Answer- I agree with the fact that race, gender, and class are elements that may help people move up the social ladder. People who belong to upper class get recognition everywhere in society. They are treated like kings and queens. People of upper class get preference everywhere like job, education etc. Children of these people easily get admission and employment in good organizations just because of their social class.
Similarly, there is a gender bias too. If a person is male then he can do anything that he wants. He can work anywhere and gets salary which is very much higher than that of females. And females do not get promoted easily in companies, they are seen as inferior to men and they get less pay then their male counterparts.
Meritocracy is a myth and people are not chosen only on the basis of their ability but also their background. They get recognition and power if they have good family background, caste, religion etc. No one recognises their skill set that they possess.
