Sy Friedland is intelligent, creative and has an engaging personality. He has a warm, friendly and had a great sense of humor. . He was a visionary and believed that JF&CS could do much better. He also responds proactively to the needs of the community. He made the organization proactive and caring to the personal issues of the staff and also created a transparent culture at JF&CS.

Sy Friedland retired as the CEO of JF&CS in 2011. He was adaptive and flexible in his approach and transformed JF&CS during his tenure. He created an open management style and implemented advance financial systems at JF&CS. This shows that he is not afraid to take risks and that his planning is effective. The remarkable increase of the agency's budget from $6.5 to $28 million and increase in staff from 100 to 700 and the number of award winning programs shows his effectiveness as a CEO. The results were only possible because of his entrepreneurial zeal, innovative spirit and his clear sense of accountability which is not usually seen in non-profits.
