All of the following are true of general adaptation syndrome except:
When stress levels are low, the body is often in a state of homeostasis
Body systems don't operate smoothly to maintain equilibrium
Stressors trigger a crisis-mode physiological response, after which the body attempts to return to homeostasis
General adaptation syndrome has three p

Solutions

Expert Solution

Answer is option(b) Body systems don't operate smoothly to maintain equilibrium

General adaptation syndrome is a process which explains the physiological changes happening in our body in response to a stress.

It is proposed by Hans Selye.

GAS has 3 phases:( option d is correct)

  1. Alarm phase: inital reaction to a stressor. It upsets cellular balance or homeostasis.
  2. Resistance phase: We get adapted to the stressors and fight back against them.
  3. Exhaustion phase: we get tired due to resisting the stressor.

Stress is a psychological response of our body to a challenge or a demand. When there no challenges, thet is stress is low, our body will be in a state of homeostasis. Option (a) is correct.

A stressor is a psychological, social or physical condition which upset our body's homeostasis and produces a stress response. They trigger a physiological response to bring back the body into homeostasis. Option (c) is correct.

Homeostasis is a balanced state of the body in which all the body functions are carried out smoothly. So option (b)is false.
