Nervous system is responsible for controlling minute Ventilaton.
Explanation:
Minute Ventilaton is amout of air inhaled or exhaled in 1 minute.
MV = TV x RR
Tidal volume and Respiratory rate are controlled by two system
1. Automatic control: Upper medulla and pons
2. Voluntary control: Cerebral cortex.
AUTONOMIC CONTROL :
The main controller of respiratory pattern generator responsible for automatic respiration are located in the medulla, which is know as PreBotzinger complex.
Pre-Botzinger complex is pacemaker cells on either side of the medulla between the nucleus ambiguus and the lateral reticular nucleus. The neurons in Pre-Botzinger complex discharge rhythmically, and they produce rhythmic discharges in phrenic motor neurons. it controls the rate and depth of thr Respiration.
Medullary centre:
Dorsal and ventral groups of respiratory neurons (DRG and VRG) are present in the medulla.
Pontine center :Pneumotaxic Center - Control rate of
breathing.
Apneustic Center - control depth of breathing
Hence by controlling rate and depth i.e. tidal volume and respiratory rate they control minute Ventilaton.
