how i draw the R and S configuration of vitamin d3 molecule

how i draw the R and S configuration of vitamin d3 molecule

Solutions

Expert Solution

There are some steps to draw R and S configurations of any molecule.

  1. Identify the stereocenter.
  2. Give priorities to substituents according to atomic mass. Higher atomic mass receives higher priority.

e.g CH3- has higher priority than H.

      3. Now, the lowest priority substituent should point away from the viewer, means from us.

       4. Draw an arrow from higher priority atom to second higher to 3rd priority.

If the arrow is clockwise it is R configuration. If it is anti-clockwise, it is S configuration.

Consider the molecule CF3H. Draw the structure for this molecule, then use it to assess each statement. Select all true statements. This molecule is polar because all molecules containing the highly electronegative F atom are polar. The bond angles for this molecule will be less than 109.5 degrees.
