Expert Solution

Immunotherapy is one of the important treatments which helps in treating and fighting against cancer by strengthening the immune system. Through this treatment, it aims at boosting and increasing the natural defense and immunity of the body and hence fights cancer. In this therapy, the body is boosted either through it natural capability to produce immune cells or through its injection and hence helps in restoring the immunity of the body. It helps in slowing the growth of the cancer cells and prevents its spread to different parts of the body. The immunotherapy works against cancer because with the increased immunity and concentration of immune cells in the system, it helps in destroying the cancer cells and abnormal cell growth.

Different types of immunotherapy are: -

Immune check point inhibitors – In this type of immunotherapy, drugs are given which helps in blocking immune checkpoints. As these immune checkpoints are blocks, it enables the immune cells to strongly react against the cancer. As the immune checkpoints are blocked, it helps in increasing the number of immune cells and makes the immune system stronger which tends to bind the tumor cells. As the immune checkpoint inhibitors block the checkpoint proteins, they are not able to bind to their partner proteins and hence turning off the signal helps in killing the T-cells to kill cancer cells.

Monoclonal Antibodies – They are a part of the immune system and they are designed in a manner which helps in binding to specific cancer cells and destroying it. The injection of specific monoclonal antibodies is a type of immunotherapy which helps in binding to the target cancer cell and eliminate it or destroy it from the system.

T-cell transfer therapy – T-cells are important immune cells which are able to recognize and destroy specific type of cancer cells. The treatment with T-cell helps in boosting the body through its natural ability to increase the production of T-cells and helps fighting against cancer.
