What is a CDN in the Internet? What is an IXP in the Internet? What does multi-homing mean in the Internet?
CDN stand for content delivery network. It is a set of geographically distributed servers that work together to provide fast delivery of Internet content. It does so by allowing quick transfer of components needed for loading the Internet content including HTML files, JavaScript files, media files etc.
An Internet exchange point ( IXP ) is a physical location usually present at the edge of different networks showing them to exchange local traffic through a switch. They allow Internet service providers ( ISPs ) to connect with content delivery networks ( CDNs ).
The practice of setting up multiple connections to the Internet so that the network doesn't shut down if one of the connections fail is termed as multi homing. As organisations rely more and more on the Internet, they implement multi homing strategy in order to avoid getting disconnected from the Internet and prevent a catastrophic failure.
