What type of tissue is this and what is one function of this tissue ?
Ans. The given slide represents cartilage. Specifically, it seems to be hyaline cartilage. The cells within the given cartilage are chondrocytes. The cartilages are made up of a matrix of collagen connective tissue. The chondrocytes are the only living cells within the cartilages. They maintain the structure of the cartilages. The main function of the cartilage is to give support, they form one of the important type of connective tissue along with bone.
Ans. The next slide indicates stained section of skeletal muscle. In this section, individual fibers are seen as well as we see nucleus located at the periphery of individual fibers. Striations or stripes are clearly observed. The skeletal muscles form the skeletal system of the body which helps in movement and locomotion.
Ans. The last slide shows stained image of a neuron. In the figure, we visualise a large cell body containing nucleus at the centre. The projections that move out of the cell body are dendrons. The large process that comes out of the cell body is axon. It is the largest cell of the body. The neuron forms the structural and functional unit of nervous system. It conducts impulses from receptor to various parts of the body.
