What is gluconeogenesis? What reactants are used? What is the product?
Gluconeogenesis (gluco=glucose, neo=new, genesis = production) is a process in which glucose is produced in the body from non carbohydrate precursors for catabolic reactions in the cell.
gluconeogenesis occurs in liver and kidney.
This process occurs due to stimulation by diabetogenic hormone i.e. hormnes that increases blood glucose level
Reactants used are glycerol , propionate , lactate ,glucogenic amino acids(alanine , glutamine).
the ultimate product is glucose.
