Q) For the short to medium- term (10 to 50 years). State a minimum of five realistic steps (not subsidies) that can be implemented to achieve a sustainable energy solution for the world.
"Sustainable Energy" is a form of energy that meets today's demand of energy without putting them in danger of getting expired or depleted and can be used over and over again.
1.Solar power is the conversion of energy from sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV), indirectly using concentrated solar power, or a combination. Photovoltaic cells convert light into elecricity using photovoltaic effect. Excess energy can also be stored and used during night times even when the sun is not shining.
2.Wind farm is a group of wind turbines in the same location used to produce electric power. These wind turbines convert winds kinetic energy into electric energy. Use of wind turbines is widely increasing because they have "lowest relative greenhouse emissions".
3.Geo Thermal is produced by tapping into the thermal energy created and stored within the earth. It arises from the radioactive decay of an isotope of potassium and other elements in earths crust. This energy is only limited to some places where high generation of heat at core is available.
4.Bio Fuels: As an energy source, biomass can either be used directly via combustion to produce heat, or indirectly after converting it to various forms of biofuel. Biomass, biogas and biofuels are burned to produce heat/power and in doing so harm the environment. Pollutants such as sulphurous oxides (SOx), nitrous oxides (NOx), and particulate matter (PM) are produced from this combustion.
5. Tidal Energy: It is a form of hydropower that converts the energy obtained from tides into electricity. Although not yet widely used, tidal energy has potential for future electricity generation. Tides also very predictadble in nature. Tidal power can have effects on marine life. The turbines can accidentally kill swimming sea life with the rotating blades.
