Which statement with regards to neuronal membrane potential is CORRECT?
A) The interior of a cell has a positive baseline voltage.
B) There is a higher concentration of potassium ions in the intracellular fluid.
C) An action potential begins at a membrane potential of 0mV.
D) Peripheral neurons have a different transmembrane potential than central neurons.
E) The electrical potential inside a neuron is the same as outside.
Answer is OPTION B- There is a higher concentration of potassium ions in the intracellular fluid.
The concentration of the potassium ion is more inside the neuronal cell(intracellular fluid) and it is less in the outside of the cell (extracellular fluid)
Likewise, the concentration of sodium is more outside the cell and low inside the cell.
The interior of the cell during resting period are usually negative and exterior of the cell is postive because , the interior of the cell is deficient of sodium ion making it more negative and exterior of the cell contain more sodium making it positive
Action potential usually start from the treshold potential that is around -50mV to -55mV.
Transmembrane potential of peripheral neuronand central neuron are same
electrical potential inside the cell and outside is not same , if it is same then the potential difference will be zero, it is depended on the ions present inside and outside of the cell. mainly the sodium and potassium ions
