Unemployment in south Africa is high or it is above 20 %, it is one of the highest in world. it is matter of worry for policy makers. Unemployment rate in South Africa is further associated with poverty and inequalities. Myriads of policies have failed to correct or address problem of unemployment.

Following are possible causes of unemployment in south Africa:

• Most of black community suffered during aparthied, and they were debarred from skills and educations, so it reflected on mass population being ineligible for employments.
• South Africa could not develop manufacturing sector or it bypassed manufacturing sector. So service sector could accommodate mass unemployed population.
• Further, educational system in South Africa is not enough strong to provide employments to masses.

Above reasons must be addressed appropriately to increase job opportunities. Government must increase level of education and it should be restructured. Government must make investment on such sector where employment elasticity is high.
