Why is the rat a good model for the study of human anatomy and physiology? Are there any drawbacks to using the rat? If so, what?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Rat is a good model for the study of anatomy and physiology as the rats offer many advantages over other species. The sucessfull isolation of Embryonic stem cells from the rats made it the best organism for study . For the study of many systems including the cardiovascular system rats are used as many genetic areas of rats and humans are Similar and especially concentrating on stroke and hypertension. Easy replication of traits and cella are possible in rats . Many physiology of human body is similar to that of rats .since rats are superior to other species in case of memory and cognition it will be the best one to study these traits . Rats have the ability to learn different tast so is its useful in case of studying cognitive development.

Drawbacks of rats

As seen in life everything will have a drawback there is no such thing as ideal animal that can be used for study .

Even though they can be used in study of anatomy and physiology it is not always possible .only 1/ 4 th of the genetic material are similar to the humans so all the study cannot be perfect..

QUESTION 1 A major theme in human anatomy and physiology is the complementarity of structure and function, meaning that the structure of an organ, for example, will reflect that organ’s ability to function optimally, and vice versa.  Please discuss in detail how the structure of the cell membrane and its unique chemistry are the factors that determine the selectivity of the membrane.  Be specific and be detailed.  A 2 or 3 sentence response will not be considered an adequate response.
