1. Patients with a specific shared brain lesion have a specific set of behavioral deficits. Does this show that this brain area is necessary for that behavior, sufficient, neither, or both? What do we mean by a visual object agnosia?
2. What are some tests you would give to a patient to try to diagnose or rule out this condition?
3. Describe an experiment that would illustrate the function of the amygdala in emotional processing.
Question 1.
Patients with brain lesions have have different behaviours problems. Yes, it shows that the effected part of the btain is responsible for behaviour.
Visual object agnosia: It is the condition in which deficit in recognizing the objects seen visually, where as the patient tries to use other sensory information to recognize the object. Althought the visual acuity, contrast, colour visikn and visual filed remains good. The deficit occurs in visual processing.
Question 2.
Diagnosing visual object agnosia is mainly based on clinical history of the patient ( history plays a major role to know the patient symptoms in diagnosing agnosia) and physical examinations includes neurological evaluation, psychological evaluation and certain standadized brain test protocols like CT scan and MRI scan to know the etiology. Visual evoked potential VEP test can be useful in diagnosing. Though the condition can be explained to the patient but rrason for the condition is mostly unclear.
