  1. Does sustained sensory deprivation have any effect on the alpha-wave patterns produced by the brain? To determine this, 10 subjects (inmates in a Canadian prison) were placed in solitary confinement for a week. At the end of the week, alpha-wave frequencies were measured for all subjects and compared to their values before confinement. Assume the population alpha-wave patterns are normally distributed and the inmates were randomly selected. Use a t-critical of 2.262.

Question 3 A brain specialist performed an experiment to see if sensory deprivation over an extended period of time reduces the alpha-wave frequencies produced by the brain. To determine this, 10 subjects, inmates of a Correctional Centre, were randomly selected. First, the members of the group were allowed to remain in their cells. Seven days later, alpha-wave frequencies were measured in Hertz for all subjects (nonconfined). After that, the same group of subjects were placed in solitary confinement for seven...

To investigate if autism is marked by different brain growth patterns in early life, studies have tried to link brain size in infants and toddlers to autism. Suppose the whole-brain volume in non-autistic toddlers is known to be 1200 milliliters, on average. One study based on a sample size of 25 autistic toddlers had a sample mean volume of 1280 ml with a standard deviation of 230 ml. a. Calculate a 95% confidence interval for the whole-brain volume of autistic...

What effect, if any, does each of the following events have on the price elasticity of demand for corporate-owned jets? a) A decline in corporate earnings causes firms to cut their travel budgets, which in turn causes expenditures on corporate jet travel to become a larger fraction of total spending on corporate travel. b) A new, much more fuel-efficient corporate jet is introduced. c) Further deregulation of the commercial airlines industry substantially increases the variety of departure times and destinations...
