A crucial starting point to develop an effective disaster recovery plan is to develop an efficient Business Impact Analysis (BIA). The BIA evaluates the potential effect of interruptions to an organization’s critical business operations; therefore, it is an essential component of the process as it highlights system or functional vulnerabilities and conveys processes or strategies to minimize the impact of the incident. This week you will conduct a BIA for an organization. The organization can be a real company of your choice or a fictitious entity. The purpose is to have you engage and actively thinking about some of the components that are required to develop an effective BIA to guide disaster recovery planning efforts. Briefly, provide some background about your company. Who is the company, its stakeholders, and the services it offers? Identify one critical business operation or core process. What is the maximum allowable outage time for the operation or process? What technology, personnel, or other resources are required to support the process or operation? Identify at least three inputs and three outputs for the identified operation or process. Elaborate on each of the inputs and outputs dependencies. Are there any regulatory or legal ramifications due to the function or process outage? If so, what are they? If not, explain why. While the process or function is inoperable, what viable temporary solution do you propose to address the situation? What benefits will all that you have described have on the organization? What disadvantages will all that you describe have on the organization? While the activity is based on either a real or a fictitious company, your submission must still adhere to APA guidelines; include academic or reputable industry sources, in-text citations to support your claims, and a reference list.
The company is an ABC corporation doing business in hotel services. It is developing a software application whereby the customer will get the card which will have chip that will have all information regarding customers and can be used to purchase all kind of products on board and be used like pass for check in and check out. There is a designated software developer team who is handling the project of its implementation within the limited time period so it can be in use by the high peak time of customers booking month.
The main stakeholders are its project team who are working on the project including the chief developer and company management.
The software development is crucial to the business as it can ease out the check in check out process and one stop solution card that will have a chip which will be used for all identification and purchase services by customers at its hotel.
There is no legal risk but all depends on its effect on revenue generation by the company if it cannot effectuate the implementation of this one stop solution card before the high demand time by customers then it might suffer loss to its competitors who already have this kind of technology.
If the project team does not complete and implement the card with chip technology it can impact the business and the company can suffer loss in millions of dollars and that will also impact its reputation in the market.
The BIA that is Business Impact Analysis to analysis the potential effect of interruptions to business operation and minimize its effect can be through developing a parallel team of software developer with another chief developer so that in case if the main developer is not well or quits company the operation can still be completed in time. This will happen as parallel team that is created will also monitor and will be involved with the main developer of this project who in case of any vulnerability will take over the project and ensure its timely completion.
