Focus on the use of the skill of persuasive expression. You will be required to make a moral argument. First, choose an ethical issue. It can be a large, national issue, such as prayer in schools, abortion, cloning, gun control, the economic stimulus package, or others. Alternatively, it can be a personal issue that you are facing at this time but don't mind discussing. Write a brief outline for an argument supporting your position on the issue, and then use that outline to write a short essay (250 words or more) trying to convince others of your point of view.
Ethical Issue: Gun Control
Outline
Intro: What is Gun Control?
Body: Use relevent statistics . show a correlation of the stats to why people should not have guns. Talk about how ridiculous they way government handle the issue.4
Conclusion: Own opinion about the issue (not wanting guns, people shouldn't have it)
Jim and Sue had been planning to have a child for two years. Finally, she became pregnant. However, their marriage had been a rough one, and by the time she was in her third month of pregnancy they had decided to divorce. At that point, both parents were ambivalent about the pregnancy. They had both wanted the child, but now things were different. Sue finally decided that she did not want to raise a child alone and did not want to raise Jim’s child. She wanted to get on with her life. However, Jim had long wanted a child, and he realized that the developing fetus was part of his own because he had provided half of its genetic makeup.
Sue finally conceived. However, Sue does not want to keep the baby because of how things are between her and Jim. She decides on getting an abortion while Jim wants her to keep the baby. I reckon, Sue must stick to her decision and not keep the baby. Yes, some may argue that a life is being taken away and a baby is being killed.
However, according to legal as well as moral rights, Jim does not get to decide. Yes, he did partially provide for the genetic make-up. However, it is Sue who is more directly and actively involved in the pregnancy. It must solely be her decision. She has to carry the child for nine months and then go through the process of giving birth. It's not only about giving birth, that's just the beginning. She took a decision because she does not see herself bringing up a child alone because she thinks she may not be able to provide for the baby. She does not want her child to suffer and live a miserable life. She rather not have him bring into this world.
