Knowing what you know about the socialization process, discuss the positive and negative impact of television viewing on young children.
Ill paint a scenario that can be used to understand the phenomena of socialization in two contexts:
Socialization, inherently and ancestrally has taken place by means of communicating verbally or non verbally) by people in actual time and space, which led us to know the true value of behavior and speech, and has thus instituted people into societies. This process, although, has been morphed since the advent of technological advancements.
With these advancements, a depiction of society is portrayed onto screen, which are a proxy for our society, this communication does not happen in the actual time and space continuum, but is nevertheless a representation of ones society, a hyperbolic representation at that.
This exposure to a certain view of society is morphed, and children, who are the designated new members of the world, having been exposed to this are bound to associate certain societal behavior and generalize them on a whole, and even imbibe or inculcate some. Banduras bobo doll experiment is the best social experiment to lean on to understand the phenomena of how social behavior can be changed by viewing of someone (authority or role model figure) in an act that is imprinted as virtue of their stand and not the characteristic displayed.
This can go either ways, it can either be negative influence or a positive. It is however predominantly focused on the content of the Television viewing, and the personality characteristics of the child that are yet to bloom, and the parenting.
Although, the virtual and the real world socializations are to be monitored closely as both can have equally negative and positive impact in a childs life.
