During a facelift, the cosmetic surgeon accidentally severs the facial nerve on the right side of the face. What are some of the effects this would have on the patient, and what muscles are involved?
ANSWER: Facial nerve is the 7th cranial nerve which supplies the facial muscle and helps the face in facial expression
when the facial nerve get affected there will some effects that see in the face they are;
* First main things which affects after the damage in the facial
nerve is drooping of eyelid in the right side of
the face,
because this is happened due to the loss of function in the
levator palpebrae superioris. This muscles helps
the elevation of the eyelid, when it loses it function, It leads to
roping of eyelids.
* difficultly in sucking any liquid or juice through straw and also in chewing the food, Because the buccinator Muscles will losses the function.
* drooling of mouth - due to loss of function in the orbicularis oris ( take care of the function of the mouth )and the buccinator Muscle.
* difficult in smiling- Zygomaticus major muscles losses it
supply thus resulted to have a difficulty in smiling.
