The state of cellular imbalance is referred to as the oxidative
stress. In this type of imbalance, the mechanisms of antioxidants
that usually neutralize reactive oxygen species (ROS) is suppressed
by excessive ROS production. This in turn will do the oxidative
damage to the molecules around them. These molecules include DNA,
RNA and lipids.
Body's Positive Response:
- The physical activity often lead to the oxidative stress within
the body which can have effects that are beneficial and regulatory
to the body.
- The oxidative stress is caused temporarily in the muscles
during excercise which thereby increases the free radical
formation.
- The free radicals that are formed durind the excercises and
other physical activities help in regulating tissue growth.
- The oxidative stress that form the free radical also stimulate
the antioxidants production in the body.
- The body is also protected from simple infection and diseases
by the mild oxidative stress.
- Studies have also revealed that the spread of cancer cells
named as melanoma also gets limited in mice due to the oxidative
stress.
