What are the two main claims of the marital decline perspective? Do you support these claims? Why or why not? Support your response.
There are two main perspectives that result in the declining marital trend. The first one is the cultural trend which promotes individualism which result in more freedom and different lifestyle which doesn’t believe in marriage. Individualism has resulted in more substance abuse, smoking, alcohol etc.
The second perspective is the changing moral trend which supports different relationship styles such as, gay, lesbian, polygamy etc. This perspective brought in the live-in relationship that looks only at sexual pleasures and not family as an institution.
I accept that these two trends as the two main reasons for the declining trend in marriage because individualism brings in more materialistic views and cause more selfish lifestyle. People want to be happy on their own and they don’t want to take the trouble of bringing up a family. The changing moral views of partnerships have also resulted in decline in marriages. Poverty, lack of education and unemployment have sped up this this trend.
