Class, I would like to pose an ethical dilemma to you all. There is not necessarily a "right" or "wrong" answer. I am just curious on your thoughts. You’re at a hotel and conference center. You’ve arrived to your meeting early, and have not have a chance to eat breakfast yet. On your way to your meeting room, you walk by another meeting and there’s a table full of food and beverages outside the room. Your meeting has no food. Would you help yourself? (150 words or more)

Solutions

Expert Solution

It would be unwise of you to attend the meeting without having the breakfast as you will not be able to focus on the meeting because you will not have the energy to sit throughout the meeting. It would be unethical if you have breakfast at the counter that is meant for another conference and for which you are not a participant. The best course of action in this situation is to explain to the restaurant staff who will be serving at the other conference meeting that you are attending another conference arranged at the same hotel and this conference has not arranged breakfast for the participants. Further you can explain the staff that you have arrived early for the meeting and have enough time to have breakfast and therefore you would pay for the breakfast that is arranged for another conference meeting. By paying for the breakfast you would not involve in any unethical behavior and you will also have the energy to sit throughout the meeting.
