1. A primary target market is that segment for the market which the company believes will give the best chance for the company to market and sell their products and services. For example, a shampoo manufacturing company for long and smooth hair would target women below the age of 60-65 as their primary target market because the market is big.
2. A secondary target market is that segment for the market which the company believes it to be the second most favourable segment that would respond for their chances to sell. For example, the same shampoo manufacturing company would have men with long hair under the age of 65 be targeted as their secondary target audience as they are not as big as the women but still they form a market which is quantifiable and having the data sets.
3. For the primary market of women, the lifestyle model that could be applied would be based upon their lifestyle needs. For example, for long and smooth hair having the dandruff problems would have a different shampoo made for the women who want that. For women in the same primary market who wants long and smooth hair but are having dry hair already would have a different shampoo preference and same would be designed for them. These are qualitative division on the basis of lifestyle approach.
4. For the secondary market of men by the same shampoo manufacturer company, men's needs could be classified under the income categories as well. For example, men wanting long and smooth hair but aren't having much income level could buy a smaller bottle or the mini pack. On the other hand, men wanting a whole package could buy the same product in a bigger bottle or bigger pack.
