Part (b) Calculate the numerical value ofFad in N.

Part (c) Express the magnitude of the magnetic force Fbc, from I1 on wire BC in terms of I1, I2,a, b, and d.

Part (d) Calculate the numerical value ofFbc in N.

Part (e) Is the force ofFad repulsive or attractive?

Part (f) Is the force ofFbc repulsive or attractive?

Part (g) The forces of Fadand Fbc both act on the infinite wireI1. Do they sum to produce a net attractive or repulsive force?

Part (h) Calculate the numerical value of the sum of the forces F = Fad -Fbc on the infinite wire in N.

Solutions

Expert Solution

The force between two parallel conductors is

The force on side AD is

Fad =4x3.14x10E-7x6.5x0.65x0.173/2x0.17

Fad = 27.0x10-7 N

The force on side BC is

   Fbc =22.72x10-7 N

The net force is attrative towards left. The net force is Fnet = (27-22.72)x10-7 = 4.28x10-7 N
