What happens to the normal respiratory cycle during speech (or reading out loud)? Draw a sample of what such
a respiratory recording might look like.
Normal respiratory cycle can be measored by spirometry by using simple spirometer. The subject has to breath in and out through the mouth piece of the instrument. When a subject inspires the floating drum moves down and the writing pen (counterweight with floating drum) moves up and produce a upward deflection. Incase of expiration it produce downward deflection. This normal relax breating noted as tidal breathing.
When a person talk or reading out loud something then this tidal breathing is altred. During speech or talking the upward deflection (inspiration) is littile bit longer than tidal inspiration and during the downward deflection (expiration), the curve shows some wavy pattern and the downward curve is broader than the tidal expiration. in the time of talking the downward deflection take much longer time to return at base line of the curve.
