How has this course affected the way you think about biology in your own life?
What new technologies do you think should be developed in the future to advance the field of human biology?
1. ANS: Importance of Biology in your own life:
Every creation which is a part of nature is so adorable and unique in its own way. Biology is an interesting subject that has been intriguing scientific minds for several centuries. Biology exists every second - when we inhale and exhale each time, respiration is taking place within our bodies, each cell receives oxygenated blood and releases carbon dioxide and other excretory wastes.
Biology uses in our life:
A. Understanding Our Bodies
Treating Disease
Exercise Science
Proper Nutrition
B. Understanding Our Environment
Conservationism
C. Using Natural Resources
Harvesting Food
D. DESIGNING GENES
Creating antibiotic resistant bacteria
2. ANS: New technologies developed in the future of human biology:
Human genome is it a difficult task to edit the gene for resistance to an infection into the human genome. Recently a newer technique of gene editing is becoming popular termed as CRISPR, with help of viral transduction mechanism it is capable of modifying the gene responsible the initiation of infection in the organism.
Sometimes editing the human genome can have a profound or deleterious effect on housekeeping and essential genes for the survival of the organism. It has to carefully plan and carried out with clinical trials across the different human population and how stable it is in the human genome. Another problem which might arise out of continuous evolution in the antigenic sequences of viruses. Then the editing of the genome for a particular surface protein receptor might not be viable after a decade or so due to changes in the infected agents. In such cases, insertion of disease resistance into the genome might be a cumbersome task and also risky at the same time. Both have its advantages and disadvantages and will depend on the nature of the interaction between the infecting agent and host organism’s i.e humans.
It will be possible for you to see if you've inherited those obesity genes within 10 years, as fast and cheap DNA sequencing technologies will make personal genomes a reality.
