Every generation experiences some national disaster or trauma, 9/11 being one of the more recent in our nation’s history. Describe how, if at all, you believe life has changed since 9/11, both for you as an individual and as a nation.

Effect of 9/11 at Nation levle:

• Deportation of half of the population.
• America’s increase involvement in the War on terror prompted by the 9/11 terrorist attacks which resulted in a dramatic change in our nation’s attitudes and concerns about safety, vigilance and privacy.
• It ushered in a new generation of policies like the USA Patriot Act, prioritizing national security and defense, often at the expense of civil liberties.
• 9/11 led to the largest increase in the United States Defense budget which was raised by 26 percent.

At indiviual level:

• At indiviual level, one doesn't feel safe in their country.
• Post-traumatic stress symptoms include feeling the event is happening again avoiding situations that remind individuals of the event negative feelings and beliefs.
• Feelings of fear and anxiety
• Trouble understanding what the attacks meant
• Hearing more news about terrorism, war, and conflicts abroad
