Current challenges of operations management are-

1. Globalization increases competition for the organization now they have to have competition from the organization across the street, as well as, from across the country and across the world.

2. Sustainability- there is three pillars of sustainability: social, environmental, and economic. Operations managers must concern themselves with the outcomes of each of the pillars including how their work affects safety, welfare, society, environment, community, and economic sustainability.

3. Ethical conduct- unethical behavior has significantly contributed to the demise of successful corporations such as Enron, Tyco, etc. being ethical across all functional areas of business like finance, human resource management, marketing, sales, and production is a biggest challenges for operations manager.

4. Effective communication- being consistent and effective when communicating can be difficult anyone in any position in the company. It is the challenge for the operations manager is to be able to communicate effectively and consistently with all internal and external stakeholders.

5. System design- designing, planning, and managing the system present a wide variety of challenges to even the most savvy operations mangers.

6. Customer expectations- earlier it is easy for the organizations to satisfy customers but now it is the most difficult task. Good enough is no longer enough for the customers. It is a challenge for operations manager to focus more on processes, than individuals.

7. Concerned over productivity- operations manager are increasingly feeling the pressure to push employees to work faster and better.

8. Reports- many operations mangers are responsible for corporate reporting, including the compilation of financial and performance data and communication of this data to stakeholders.

9. Unresolved conflicts between functional departments- managing conflicts or competing business practices within the organization is a major challenge for an operations manager.

10. Social responsibilities- operations manager looks specifically at how the business engages with its local community beyond trying to get customers to buy its products. It is a challenge for operations management.
