How have some organisms (animals) evolved to defend themselves from predation? Give examples.

Solutions

Expert Solution

With time for a long durations animals showed changes in both physical and behavior to prevent themselves from predators and these changes which took place over a time are called as adaptations some examples are as:-

1. Camouflage:- This is the method used by an organism to act in a way that it becomes difficult for the predator to see them the best example is shown by the flat tail horned lizard of north America which completely looks like a groud when it moves and thus prevents itself from being eaten up by predator.

2. Playing dead:- This is also called as thanatosis in this type of adaptation an animal mimics its own dead body and thus prevents itself from being attacked by the predator the best example is white tailed deer fawns they can experience a drop in heart rate when predators approach to them.

3.Distraction:- In this type of antipredation adaptations an organisms releases some chemical mixtures to distract the predator that mimics food and even confuses the predator. The best example is sea hares, cuttlefish squid and octopus.
