Solutions

Expert Solution

A population pyramid represents the mode of development and the distribution of indiviudals of different age groups in the country. Thus, these pyramids can be directly read to understand the distribution of age of the population.

Particularly, the pyramid of under-developed countries have following features:

  1. These pyramids are very broad at the bottom and narrow at the top.
  2. The distribution of age suggests that a large fraction of the population belongs to the age of infants and toddlers. This suggests that a large fraction of population is dependent upon the elderly for their survival.
  3. The total fraction of population is very less in the elderly group suggesting the total work-force deficiency.
  4. A very less fraction of population belongs to the age of yound adults thus suggesting extreme deficiency of human resources.

Thus, these features are typical to the pyramid of age of an under-developed country and can be visibly utilized using a pyramid of age.
