Performance Gap
It refers to the amount of difference between the expected
outputs from the employee in comparison to the output given by the
employee. Difference between the “expectation on
deliverables from the organization and the actual result delivered
by the employee”. For example if the employee is asked to
complete a program in one day time frame but he/she takes 3 days to
complete the same program.
Factors affecting the performance Gap are:
- Dealing with the Change: Today organization
are more agile in nature to meet the customer demands more
efficiently. When organization becomes more agile, they require
frequent changes in the organizational structure and process. Those
changes in the structure and process are sometimes not received
well by the workforce. For example when Toyota moved to Lean
Manufacturing platform in their manufacturing plants, workers were
finding it difficult to adjust to the newly accepted process. As a
result a big gap come into the picture. This Gap can be removed by
analyzing the problems faced by the organization workforce to
accept the change, and suggest solutions for effective and
efficient adoption of change.
- Technical knowledge about the process: Workers
some time lack the technical expertise in the area of new
technology which are being used in their process. For example it is
really difficult to find people who are expert in Artificial
Intelligence and Machine learning. These new technologies are
difficult to be adopted by the workforce on large scale. This
problem can be overcome by the regular trainings and workshop to be
conducted by the organization to reskill and upskill their present
workforce.
- Soft Skills: This represents the attitude and
behavioral analysis of employees at work-place. In todays
globalized world where employees of one country are working to
deliver the project in some other country need to learn the soft
skills to handle the onsite clients. In the era of globalization
organizational workforce need to learn soft skills in order to
perform in globalized economy.
