Enzymes are generally proteins. Proteins are sensitive to extreme changes in their environment and if they lose their structure, (are denatured), do not function properly anymore. The metabolism reactions that keep a human organism alive is driven and supported by countless enzymes. What then, is the risk of a person running a high fever for a prolonged period of time?

Solutions

Expert Solution

As we know that all enzymes are proteins and proteins are sensitive to the extreme environmental changes. All proteins have their specific characteristics and defined environmental factor which affects their functionality. Environmental factor like pH, temperature etc affects the protein structure and then particular protein may not work properly. When a person suffering from fever for prolonged period of time. The temperature of the body of that person elevate in comparison to normal body temperature (36.1-37.8˚C).The elevated temperature affects the protein structure. Proteins are complex molecules that play many critical roles in the cells and are required for the structure, function and regulation of the body’s tissues and organelles. Proteins functions as enzyme, antibody, structural component, transport and storage molecules of the body. At the elevated temperature of the body change the shape of proteins. It alters the metabolic reactions by changing its shape. If the shape of the protein is changes by elevated temperature of the body this change in protein also affects the enzymes active site and denatures it. If the protein or enzymes lose their activity then the person gel ill or if not prevented may die.
