1) What exactly is the meaning of enthalpy (Example: why is the eqaution H= q + W)? How did enthalpy come about (dervived)? How do you know that a given problem relates to enthalpy?
2) Also, how does internal energy and enthalpy relate? How are change in enthalpy and change in internal energy related at constant volume?
1.Enthalpy is a major thermodynamic property denoted by H. It is given by
dH=dU+d(PV)
=dQ-PdV+PdV-PdV
=dQ+dW
For processes at constant pressure, the heat absorbed or released equals the change in enthalpy.It is one extensive property.First law of thermodynamics says that ENERGY CAN NEITHER BE CREATED NOR BE DESTROYED.Enthalpy is nothing but a form of energy which is used during energy conservation in any problem. Its always denoted by its change not by its absolute value.
2.Internal energy and enthalpy equation has been given in the first equation.
At constant volume,
dU=dQ (since dV=0)
dH=dU+Vdp
=dQ+Vdp
