1. The Doctor orders Cephalexin capsules at 10mg/kg. Your patient weighs 100 pounds. What is the dose in milligrams (mg) for your patient?
2. Using your dose from above: Cephalexin comes in 250mg and 500mg capsules and is given TID. Which size capsule will you use? And how often will you administer the medication?
Please show your work, I'm trying to learn this stuff.
1.Given
Order :Cephalexin
Weight :100lbs (0.454*100=45.4kg)
Dose :10mg/kg
As it is given 1kg=10mg
Then 45.4kg=??mg
Cross multiply and divide
=45.4*10/1
=45.4*10
=454mg
Ans:The ordered dose is 454mg for the patient
2.Now from the above calculation the dose to be administered to the patient is 454mg (upon rounding off it is 450mg ) the conversion is made because the medication is available in capsule form
The size of the capsule to be selected is two 500mg capsule and one 250mg capsule. In a day three times it has to be administered do the actual size is 1362mg. In order to prevent overdose the lowest dose can be chosen for drug and patient safety .
The medication has to be administered once in every eight hours as it is TID (means thrice a day)
