Even though there are cases of Down’s syndrome that are more severe than others, it is the more severe forms that are seen as an example and advertised. As popular culture, it has never been the less severe forms that have even been mentioned or put across in public. As a result, thinking of Down’s syndrome, people always think of the more severe forms. This has become a mental image. Society, tends to behave adversely with patients of mental health. Moreover, when they see such conditions, they tend to steer themselves away.

This question is important to me as a member of the society, since I see people behaving this way and I have not been able to change their minds. This behavior is wrong and when such wrong behaviors are committed they show a greater wrong doing to the society. It is important for the people to understand that there are differences in the severity of down’s syn and even if there weren’t, unjust and negative behaviors against these patients would further deteriorate their conditions.

Major developments in social science include linguistics, psychology, study of culture, sociology and political science. These fields allow study of other people and their though process. Particularly sociology, that implies ‘science of society’.

A positivist would use methods of natural science that helps in a thorough look into the society and in its understanding. The interpreting would use symbolic interactions as well as social critique in order to negate the theories that have been put forward, such that science could be treated in a broader manner. Also, the researchers use qualitative as well as quantitative research so as to obtain new information about the society and its norms.
