Conventional surface mining: Conventional surface mining is the open cast mining by removing the rocks and the upper crust of the Earth. It is one of the common ways of mining in the world that produces a vast amount of coal and other minerals.

Advantages of conventional surface mining: It is easy and cost-efficient, safe and also beneficial for higher productions and many more.

Disadvantages of conventional surface mining: Affects the underground water, land and other ecosystems.  

Solution mining: Solution mining is the designed mining that happens inside the ground in a sophisticated way so that it does not affect the environment more largely. This type of mining is done in a layer form in the underground.

Advantages of solution mining: It does not affect the environment more largely.

Disadvantages of solution mining: It is of high cost, low production.
