Question 62 Alice went to the local coffee shop and ordered her usual drink, before sitting down to read her book. She didn't realize that a group of her friends were sitting at a table with a giant sign that said "Happy Birthday Alice!" even though she walked right past their table. They had to actually tap her on the shoulder before she noticed them. This is an example of
a. shape constancy
b. the binding problem
c. inattentional blindness
d. change blindness
ANSWER - OPTION C INATTENTIONAL BLINDNESS
EXPALANTION-
NATTENTIONAL BLINDNESS- is where the person fails to notice a fully visible, but unexpected object beacuse attention was engaged on another task (here ordering coffee and plan to read her book), event or object.
it cant be change blindness beacuse, this type requires some kind of change in the visula field. there has to be some stimulus introduced and the observer does not notice it. as the question indicates that the her friends were sitting with a giant sign board already. This might have been the answer if her friends statred to hold the sign board as she was walking past them and she didnt notice. but its not the case here, they were already holding the giant sign board and so, there was no visual filed change.
shape constacy is not the answer as it is the tendacny to percieve an object as having same shape regardless of its orientation.
the blinding problem is not the answer as well because it deals with how our brain segregate elements in complex patterns of sensoray input.
GOOD LUCK!
