What are some potential practice applications arising from the study of Drosophilia Acps?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Acp is known as Accessory gland proteins. In Drosophilly Acp is found in the seinal fluid as a major componant. They are responsible for several parts of fertilization process. Acp is also indirectly modulate female behaviour so that the sucess rate of male reproductive rate increased.

In some Drosophilla species the rate of evoluiton of Acp is very high. This can be a result of adaptive evoluiton. As Acps are essential for fertilization, this first evolution rate could be essential for speciation event. They can make reproductive incompatibilities between different species and helps in selection of species with a higher rate of reproductive sucsess.

The study of Acp protein in Drosophilla is very important as we can use this a model system to study reproductive protein evolution. When different species are compared for Acp protein we can know what was the cause and what are the consequeces of molecular evolution. We can allso use Acp gene as a possible model to study the role of gene duplicaiton is evolution.
