X-Ray imaging produces ___________ images whereas SPECT and PET produce __________ images.
a. emission, reflection
b. transmission, emission
c. reflection, transmission
d. spin echo, relaxation
X-Ray imaging produces transmisson images. In such a technique radiation is produced outside the human body. In this technique some part of the photons passing through the body of interest is absorb and some part is transmitted. The number of photons transmitted through the body of interest will then be detected by image detectors that convert the body’s direct attenuation of the photons into digital images.
SPECT and PET produce emission images. In this technique radiation is produced inside human body. The system detects pairs of gamma rays emitted indirectly by a positron-emitting radionuclide, which is introduced into the body on a biologically active molecule.
