The Darwin Awards are a tongue-in-cheek honour ,originating in Usenet newsgroup around 1985.

They recognize individuals who have supposedly contributed to human evolution by selecting themselves out of the gene pool via death or sterility by their own actions.

The criterion for the award states ,"In the spirit of Charles Darwin , the Darwin Awards commemorate individuals who protect our gene pool by making the ultimate sacrifice of their own lives. Award winners eliminate themselves in an extraordinarily idiotic manner .

MISCONCEPTIONS BEHIND EVOLUTION-

The misconception about Charles Darwin seems to come from the title of his arguably most famous book on 'Origin of species'. Darwin does not give any thoughts on how life started on earth. Instead , the book lay out the idea of how species change over time through natural selection. While it does hypothesize that all life is related somehow to a common ancestor ,Darwin does not try to explain how that common ancestor came into being.

1. 'Evolution is just a theory'- The biggest problem about this that while many people use the word theory to describe something that is a hunch or a guess .

2. Certain things such as human eye , are too complex to evolved- Some deniers of evolution claim that the eye ball is too complex to have come about through generation of subsequent mutations.

3. Microevolution might exist , but it cannot happen on a larger scale to change entire organisms- Macroevolution is simply an accumulation of microevolution events . Generation after generation , genetic mutation occur and impact how species looks , act ,eat.
