what is acclimatization? if you moved from Madison at sea level to Santa Fe at 7000 feet above sea level, how would your kidneys react to the altitude change?
Premature babies may have IRDS how does this condition affect the infant respiratory system?
Acclimatisation is the process through which an organism change
its, behaviour, morphological traits or biochemical compostition to
adjust to a new environment like change in temperature or
altitude.
When someone shifts to high altitude the oxygen dissolved in blood
lowers causing hypoxia due to presence of less amount of oxygen in
air at high altitudes. This triggers the chemoreceptors which sends
sensory signals to hypothalamus. The hypothalamus sends signals to
the kidney to release erythropoietin which acts on the bone marrow.
Erythropoietin causes bone marrow to produce more RBC which raises
the number of RBC in blood. Increased RBC results in carrying more
oxygen to the body tissues which compensates for low oxygen in
blood.
Infant respiratory distress syndrome or IRDS is respiratory
condition affecting the lungs of premature infants. The lungs of
premature infants lacks surfactant which causes collapse of thd
lung spaces or alveoli. This results in impaired gas exchange
causing high levels of carbon dioxide in body and low oxygen
leading to hypox
