For your initial response, include your choice from below and tell us how you would plan your experiment answering the following questions:
What population are you planning to examine?
-How will you select a representative sample?
-How will you randomize your subjects to the various treatments? Is it even possible?
-Which of the following concepts will you be using: control group, placebo treatment, blindness or double blindness. Which of these don’t apply to your experiment? Why?
-Describe which variables you will measure and compare.

Choose from the following options:

We are choosing the option "An apple a day keeps the doctor away". For this we shall plan our experiment as follows.

  • The population planned to examine is the students of an university.
  • The population contains students of different ages. We shall divide students in homogeneous strata of different ages. Then we shall perform stratified random sampling procedure to collect sample.
  • We shall randomly assign the students into two groups. For example, we shall choose random numbers from random number table (or generate them). Using random numbers we shall select students according to some relation of random number and serial number of students in the strata. We shall provide an apple to each student for six months.
  • We are using the concept of control group here. We are not providing any other fruit or anything like an apple and so concept of placebo treatment is not used here. The students are aware of what they are intaking and so concepts blindness or double blindness are not used here.
  • We shall calculate number of times the students in the control group had a meeting with a doctor in the period of six months as well as that of uncontrolled group students. We shall calculate mean number of meetings of two groups. Then we shall perform statistical testing procedures to compare whether average number of meetings for controlled group is significantly small or not.
